Daguerreotype presents a refined man of
academics posing in a distinguished manner.
Stephen Van Rensselaer Forbes opened one of
the first schools in Chicago in 1830. He was
also elected sheriff in 1832. His parents were
John Forbes and Anna “Ann” Sawyer. He also
married Elvira Bates. Identified in a modern
hand. Forbes was an important early Chicago
person and this plate is excellent. $550
