11391 27th Indiana Oliver Shepherd 3X WIA Incredible Archive- In July 1861 Oliver
Shepherd enlisted in Company H 27th Indiana Volunteers. The regiment was
dispatched to the Army of the Potomac. Shepard was hit by a spent ball at Cedar
Mountain, had a gunshot wound to the hip at Antietam, and was wounded in the
forearm at Gettysburg. He later went to New York to help put down the draft riots.
Mustered out in September of 1864, he wasted little time in reenlisting as first
lieutenant in Company G 145th Indiana and was later promoted to Captain. $4,500
