portrays Private George M. Thompson
pensively posing with hat in one hand and
gloves in the other as he rests one hand on a
wood railing. He is from Shelbyville, Illinois
and mustered into “H” Co. IL 7th Cavalry
on September 20, 1861. He re-enlisted on
March 30, 1864 and was mustered out on
November 4, 1865 at Nashville, TN. He was
promoted to sergeant. Identified from HDS.
