Augur, Christopher C., major-general, In July, 1862, he was
assigned to a division under Gen. Banks and was severely
wounded in the battle of Cedar mountain. On Aug. 9, 1862, he
was promoted major-general of volunteers and, joining his
command in the following November, he took part in the
Louisiana campaign. Meritorious services at the siege of Port
Hudson, where he commanded the left wing of the army, won
for Gen. Augur the brevet of brigadier-general in the U. S.
army, March 13, 1865, and at the same time he was brevetted
major-general, U. S. A., for meritorious services during the
