Allow me to introduce my friend Lt. Thos W. Lord, U.S. Army and to commend
him to your kind consideration.
Mr. Lord has been retired by a late order and is anxious to be again put on the active list. I
should feel personally obliged for favors shown him.

[Allan Rutherford was wounded 8/30/1862 at the 2nd Battle of Bull Run. He was made
Brig. General by Brevet on 3/13/1865. After the war he served in the Regular Army until
1870, when he resigned as a captain. He was Third Auditor of the U.S. Treasury from
1870-76.]
[Captain Thomas W. Lord joined the 17th Maine Vols in July 1862. He was wounded and
lost his left leg by amputation at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Va, so was discharged in
Sept. 1863. The loss of his leg didn’t prevent him from rejoining the army, first in the 17th
Regt. Vet. Reserve Corps and later in the 43rd U.S. Inf. and the 20th U.S. Infantry. With
the 20th U.S. Inf he served in Dakota Territory, Texas, Kansas, Indian Territory, and
Montana Territory. He retired under the rank of Captain.]
